WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling, sometimes also called collagen induction therapy, is a minimally-invasive cosmetic treatment designed to promote the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in a healthier, more refreshed skin aesthetic. This is achieved by pricking the topmost layers of the skin with small, sterile needles. As the outer surface of the skin is punctured by the needles, the body’s natural healing process activates, resulting in the production of new tissues that are rich in collagen and elastin. This new skin tissue typically has improved tone and texture. It may also look and feel firmer, which can reduce or eliminate the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

WHAT DOES MICRONEEDLING TREAT?

Microneedling can help treat a range of skin concerns, including:

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A MICRONEEDLING PROCEDURE?

The microneedling procedure typically begins with the application of a topical numbing cream. Then, our med spa technician will utilize a specialized device to gently puncture the outer surface of the skin using tiny, sterile needles. This activates the skin’s natural healing processes, beginning the induction of new collagen and elastin to the treated area. The entire procedure typically takes less than half an hour, and patients should be able to resume their normal activities right after treatment, should they so desire.

The results of microneedling are not typically immediately apparent. Instead, the newly activated skin proteins will generate over the course of several weeks, gradually improving the texture and appearance of the skin. The best microneedling results are typically achieved over the course of four to six sessions, allowing for a continuous induction of collagen and elastin.

How Long Will My Microneedling Results Last?

In order to obtain optimal results, we generally recommend that patients plan to have at least three initial sessions spaced about four to six weeks apart. Once the desired level of skin improvement is achieved, the effects of treatment can last for anywhere from six months to over a year. In order to help maintain your results, “touch up” appointments can be scheduled as needed.
