HOW DOES BOTOX® COSMETIC WORK?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is named for its primary ingredient, botulinum toxin. Although the name can be intimidating, the procedure is considered quite safe, and it has been FDA-approved as a temporary aesthetic treatment for dynamic facial lines and wrinkles in specific areas for over a decade. BOTOX® Cosmetic is able to relax the muscles around the injection site, causing them to stop contracting. This halts the development and diminishes the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, which are formed by repetitive facial movements, such as frowning, squinting, etc. Our patients often report a restored sense of confidence after seeing their wrinkle-reducing results.
What Can BOTOX® Cosmetic Treat?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is primarily associated with its aesthetic benefits, but it can also be a powerful tool for treating a variety of other concerns. Potential benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic include:
- Temporary reduction in the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the forehead, mouth, eyes, and other areas
- Relaxation of the forehead muscles and a reduction in the appearance of frown lines for a more youthful, relaxed appearance

WHAT DOES A BOTOX® COSMETIC TREATMENT INVOLVE?
To determine whether BOTOX® Cosmetic is the right treatment for you, we start with a consultation. Our experienced Nurse Injector, Lauren Helmuth, will go over your goals and expectations and come up with a personalized plan for treatment.
Should you decide to move forward with the procedure, a thin needle will be used to inject BOTOX® Cosmetic in the targeted area(s). A topical anesthetic can be applied to the injection site to minimize any discomfort. The process typically takes about half an hour, though the length may vary depending on the number of injections. Due to the minimally-invasive nature of the treatment, most patients are able to return to work right away.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER GETTING BOTOX® INJECTIONS?
Patients have described a dramatic decrease in signs of dynamic wrinkles after BOTOX® injections. The results of the treatment generally begin to show after a few days, with the final results typically taking around two weeks to appear. For optimal anti-aging outcomes, we often recommend that patients schedule follow-up appointments every three to four months to prevent wrinkles from re-forming.
How Often Can I Get BOTOX® Injections?
Most patients schedule follow-up appointments every 3-6 months to refresh and maintain the anti-aging results of their BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments. That said, some long-term BOTOX® Cosmetic patients notice that their results seem to last longer over time, as their muscles are trained to relax and the development of new lines and wrinkles is halted.
Are There Any Side Effects Associated With BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® injections are generally considered a safe and effective way of treating common signs of aging. Common side effects may include redness, soreness, and inflammation near the injection site, but these typically fade within the first few days after treatment. Although rare, more serious complications can also occur, including allergic reaction, vision problems, difficulty speaking or swallowing, trouble breathing, and muscle weakness. If you notice any of these symptoms, we recommend seeking medical attention as soon as possible. Our injector, Lauren Helmuth, has the necessary training and experience in safely administering BOTOX® injections to minimize the risk of complications and provide exceptional results. HOW MUCH DOES BOTOX® COSMETIC COST?
At our medical spa, the cost of BOTOX® Cosmetic typically depends on the number of targeted areas and the amount of BOTOX® Cosmetic needed to achieve the desired result. Because we never want the cost of a procedure to keep you from getting the care you desire, we offer several payment options, including third-party financing, to make this part of the process easier.
